The toll-free Sydney Gateway road project will transform how Australia’s biggest city moves, cutting up to 40 minutes of travel time in the morning peak for motorists travelling from Parramatta to Sydney Airport.

Starting in 2021 with a finish date of 2024, the $2.6 billion project will strengthen Sydney’s position as a global city, return local roads to local communities, and slash travel times to and from Sydney Airport’s Domestic and International terminals.

Featuring a total of 19 bridges, including one that will be wider than the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and offering a direct connection to the new Sydney motorway network at St Peters Interchange, Sydney Gateway will streamline travel for motorists and divert up to 10,000 trucks a day from local streets.

The project will be delivered in two sections:

  • The International Terminal and Qantas Drive connection. This is a new high-capacity road connection, linking the Sydney motorway network at St Peters Interchange with Sydney Airport’s International Terminal and Qantas Drive.
  • Domestic Terminals access that will create an arterial road connection and flyover to Sydney Airport’s Domestic Terminals, along with improvements to existing roads towards Port Botany.

SABdrain was proud to be apart of such a monumental step forward for Sydney, as 27 metres of 704 300mm x 300mm was supplied to John Holland for installation at Qantas Drive.

SABdrain 704 trench drain system provides the ultimate combination of design and functionality, thanks to its lightweight channel unit and high-strength cast iron grate. With a Class D rating, this channel drain is capable of withstanding even the most demanding requirements. The 8-point security fixing system ensures that the grate stays rattle-free even under heavy vehicular movements, while the anti-slip nodules provide added safety.

In addition to the cast iron grate, the SABdrain 704 also features polypropylene channels that are both easy to install and high-strength. The unique construction of the SABdrain drainage channel provides excellent structural rigidity, protecting it from damage during and after installation. The smooth, rounded internal surface of the SABdrain water drainage system allows for higher flow rates and a self-cleaning action, preventing the accumulation of silt deposits. SABdrain channels feature an inbuilt click-clack feature, making it easy to join channels together for longer runs and installation faster.
