Bonnyrigg High School, situated in Greater Western Sydney, aims to provide quality teaching and learning through an inclusive and challenging curriculum, where students develop as effective and responsible global citizens who value life-long learning. The school features a broad curriculum to support students in developing their maximum potential. This is achieved by providing an excellent learning environment, a caring school community, and a wide range of facilities and programs. One of these initiatives was opening Australia’s first community first aid centre on the public schools grounds. The idea for the centre, developed when a local parent and St John Ambulance Australia member Stan Walden established the Bonnyrigg High School St John cadet division in 2009. The facility has two treatment rooms, a mezzanine storage area and undercover parking for a first aid/ambulance vehicle. The division meets every Friday at the school for two hours and provides training in first aid and opportunities to practice at community events and training camps including the annual St John state and interstate camps. All cadets are issued with a St John Ambulance Australia cadet uniform shortly after joining the division.
As apart of an update to the area around the centre SABDrain’s 704 was installed to aid in water drainage around the building, including the alley and at the back of the building. The dip in the alley between 2 buildings as well as behind the building was causing flooding resulting in slip hazards for students & teachers. Over the school holidays, the 704 was installed by RDB Plumbing Services. With the channels easily click-clacking together, the job was easily finished before the students returned to school.
SABdrain’s 704 channel & grate was the perfect option for the school’s first aid centre as it is Class D which ensures the grate is able to withstand vehicles that may drive over the grate. This 300mm x 200mm polypropylene channel allows for a greater flow capacity allowing rapid discharge of water. The modular system made it a quick install using our easy channel interlocking connection system. The Class D channel & grate is able to withstand the general traffic of the first aid centre, as well as any vehicles that enter and exit. Each of the grates has a ‘4 point’ security fixing system, making the drain system secure from unauthorised access; a must for any school. Cleaning the channel is simple with the grates easily unlockable using a tool.
